CSD 47000 - Aural Rehabilitation For Adults
Theoretical and clinical implications associated with the rehabilitation of hearing loss in adults and geriatric adults. Discussion centers on a family-centered team approach, built upon the effective use of amplification and other assistive devices.
Preparation for Course P: CSD 46000 or consent of instructor.
Cr. 3. Notes Restricted to Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) and Speech-Language Pathology (SPLP) majors. Student Learning Outcomes 1. Summarize the results of an audiological assessment in a patient-centered manner.
2. Understand the effects of hearing loss on communication, lifestyle, and family relations.
3. Explain differences in treatment options of hearing loss at a basic level.
4. Counsel patients and/or patient families on different communication styles and strategies.
5. Produce recommendations on therapy options based on patient needs and hearing abilities.
6. Plan a support group session to help teach an age-appropriate topic on resources available to people with communication difficulties due to hearing loss.
