HIST 34902 - History Of Emotions



This course explores the emerging field of the History of Emotions, providing an introduction to scholarship and debates in an interdisciplinary field which has fostered new connections between the humanities, social sciences, and cognitive sciences. Students will examine how emotions have been conceptualized, expressed, and regulated across different historical periods and cultures. The course will investigate the intersections of emotions with social, political, and cultural history, challenging students to consider how emotional norms and experiences have shaped historical events and societal changes. The course will reflect upon interdisciplinary approaches, noting how emotions are explored in a variety of fields, including but not limited to psychology, biology, anthropology, communication, and literature.
