COM 11000 - Introduction To The Communication Major
This 2-credit-hour course is for new communication studies majors to help them get acquainted with the department, faculty, other majors, and the curriculum. It will also address degree and career mapping. Finally, students will learn about the discipline and careers they can pursue with their degrees.
Preparation for Course P: Restricted to Communication majors only.
Cr. 2. Student Learning Outcomes 1. Learn about their major curriculum and have a completed 4-year plan to graduation.
2. Have a better understanding of their career options with a major in communication.
3. Differentiate between hard and soft skills.
4. Practice critical and analytical skills.
5. Understand the concentration options and be advised on which is the best choice for their education goals.
6. Receive a basic understanding of the scientific method and how it relates to research.
7. Learn the major core requirements to begin collecting assignments for their portfolio.
8. Be familiar with the faculty members of the department.
