COM 10400 - Communication Concepts And Theories
This course is designed to introduce students to the study of human communication in a variety of contexts including interpersonal, group and organizational, rhetoric and persuasion, mass communication, and cultural studies. Students will learn a range of basic concepts and theories in communication, how to read, evaluate, and synthesize communication theories from the social scientific, interpretive, and critical paradigms. They will also learn how to write literature reviews using APA format.

2. Understand and describe the paradigms of human communication.
3. Interpret and evaluate communication concepts.
4. Develop writing and research skills appropriate for advanced undergraduate work.
5. Understand the broad goals of the discipline.
6. Identify and describe communication theories across the discipline’s traditions.
7. Identify and understand the paradigms under which the theories belong.
8. Apply various theories to contexts and/or situations (i.e., personal examples, current events, television and film).
9. Identify the key elements of and accurately summarize scholarly journal articles.
