MUSC 12300 - Commercial Applied Drums
In this course, students will be guided through an individualized curriculum to meet their specific musical development and interests in drums and percussion. The assignments, pieces, and instruments of study will vary from student to student, with the same end goal of creating competent and confident musicians. This course is designed for music minors, music majors taking a secondary instrument, and other non-music majors.
Preparation for Course P: Department permission required.
Cr. 1. Notes May be repeated for credit.
Lab fee for material costs and studio maintenance. Student Learning Outcomes 1. Perform eighth-note based drum set patterns with accurate rhythm, consistent sticking, and stylistic clarity.
2. Perform pre-written fills of one, two, or four beats to connect phrases with consistent time.
3. Demonstrate understanding of drum set and general music notation by correctly interpreting rhythms, note values, dynamics, and performance markings in written charts.
4. Maintain consistent tempo and internal pulse while performing elementary-level drum set music, both with and without a metronome.
5. Develop technical ability through the study of drum exercises that address control, dexterity, and strength.
