EDU 47300 - Elementary STEM Practicum



The Elementary STEM Practicum is designed to provide candidates completing the Elementary STEM licensure with an opportunity for apprenticeship with a master STEM teacher. In the apprenticeship model, candidates are expected to increase their ability to participate in the community of practice, beginning with the mastery of skills at the periphery of the profession and completing a trajectory that sees them engaging in all of the practices as the lead STEM teacher.

Student Learning Outcomes
1.  Create an environment for learning by creating a positive classroom culture, establishing cooperative learning, integrating technology, and connecting learning outside the classroom.
2.  Plan lessons that naturally integrate STEM disciplines, including principles of project-based learning.
3.  Build scientific understanding by implementing inquiry, addressing student misconceptions, facilitating questioning and discourse, utilizing assessments, and building scientific literacy.
4.  Engage students in the practices of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, which include cultivating scientific investigations, developing engineering solutions, fostering data utilization, developing scientific explanations, promoting scientific argumentation, and promoting computational thinking.
