HTM 45000 - Event Risk Management



This course examines risk management practices in sports and special events. Students learn to identify, assess, and mitigate legal, financial, and operational risks while developing strategies for safety, security, and crisis response. Emphasis is placed on applying principles to protect guests, employees, assets, and organizational reputation through effective planning and decision-making.

1.  Identify sources of risk in sports and special event operations, including legal, financial, safety, terrorism, and reputational factors.
2.  Develop comprehensive risk management and emergency response plans for sports and tourism events.
3.  Evaluate insurance, contracting, and indemnification strategies to reduce risk exposure for venues and organizations.
4.  Apply crisis communication and leadership strategies to effectively manage real-time incidents and organizational responses.
5.  Integrate data and best practices to make evidence-based risk management decisions that support sustainable and safe event operations.
