HIST 39201 - History Of Islamic Societies To 1500
Exploration of the development of Islamic civilization from its emergence at the end of Late Antiquity up through the era witnessing the initial stirrings of the great Ottoman, Safavid, and Mughal empires at the turn of the sixteenth century.
Cr. 3. Student Learning Outcomes 1. Evaluate and address some of the major problems and debates associated with the modern western historiography of Islamic civilization.
2. Demonstrate an understanding of the most important methodological operations, interpretive lenses, and types and styles of questioning associated with the contemporary study of the history of Islamic civilization.
3. Produce an original interpretation of a discrete question, problem, issue, or theme attendant to our collective understanding of history of the development of Islamic civilization up through the turn of the sixteenth century.
