MUSC 38363 - Concert And Event Promotion
This course is a practical introduction to the structure of the live performance industry. Topics covered include artist relations, talent and venue management, advertising and public relations, licensing, live sound reinforcement, stage and lighting systems, as well as performing arts administration. The student will gain practical experience by participating in the promotion and production of college sponsored events.
Preparation for Course P: MUSC 18203 with grade of C- or better and admitted into a program of the School of Music.
Cr. 3. Student Learning Outcomes 1. Demonstrate an understanding of the entire live industry from artist relations to touring, to merchandise.
2. Successfully route a tour following industry best practices.
3. Show understanding of concert promotion and how they interact with venues and how they differ from booking agents.
4. Demonstrate the connection between the artist and his or her team and express each role in the “chain” and what each role does.
5. Determine if a promoter will be financially successful based on the financials estimated for a show.
