MUSC 18203 - Survey Of Music Industry And Copyright
As an overview of the global music industry as practiced in the United States, this course will provide insights into a number of key areas of business related to music. Students will also explore a diversity of music industry career paths in areas such as arts management, music products & merchandizing, public relations, live music, music production & recording, publishing, and online music distribution.
Preparation for Course P: Must be admitted into a program of the School of Music.
Cr. 3. Student Learning Outcomes 1. Show an in-depth understanding of the three major facets of the music industry: recording, publishing, and live music.
2. Demonstrate knowledge via a series of exams and assignments designed to assess student learning.
3. Learn how to work within teams to put on a successful live concert.
4. Gain a basic understanding of record deals and how to avoid harmful deals for a burgeoning artist.
