MUSC 10900 - Rudiments Of Music I
Fundamentals of notation, ear training, music reading.
Cr. 2-4. Notes Grade of B- or better required for admission into MUSC 11300 and 11500,
Restricted to students admitted into a music degree or theatre degree program. Student Learning Outcomes 1. Read Western musical systems for notating musical parameters, particularly pitch, rhythm and expression.
2. Translate Western notation systems to their sonic equivalents for musical performance.
3. Match heard music to written notation and, conversely, follow music notation along with recordings or live performed music.
4. Analyze and construct organized collections of pitch, including common intervals, scales, and keys.
5. Understand the mechanics of simple and compound meters in Western music.
6. Identify the qualities and construction of fundamental Western harmonies/chords.
