COM 21001 - Visual Communication



Basic principles, theories, and history of channels of human communication other than written and spoken language; development of elementary skills and experimentation in producing nonverbal messages and combining nonverbal with verbal messages. Some darkroom lab activities. Adjustable camera required.

Student Learning Outcomes
1.  Appreciate the historical evolution of images and photography.
2.  Understand the relationships between images and text.
3.  Analyze visual images for impact and historical and cultural implications.
4.  Produce their own visual media that convey specific meanings to targeted audiences.
5.  Use Photoshop and Lightroom (or similar photo editing software) to edit images within the bounds of established photojournalism editing norms and ethics.
6.  Display a portfolio of photographs taken and edited by the student that apply the key technological and artistic concepts of the course.
