ILCS 30000 - Methods Of Research And Criticism
Study of methods of research and bibliographical documentation. Basic techniques of research, footnoting, and intensive writing. Critical approaches to language study and research throughout the world.
Preparation for Course P: ENGL 13100 or ENGL 23301 (or equivalent).
Cr. 3. Student Learning Outcomes 1. Improve students’ knowledge of methods for humanities research.
2. Develop a sophisticated critical academic argument both in writing and in class discussion.
3. Create competent academic writing of varying lengths and for varying purposes (i.e., summary, argumentative in a comparative context, conference paper length research essay).
6. Read and analyze various types of language research critically.
7. Have the knowledge to locate and participate in digital humanities projects.
8. Show understanding of and appreciation for how social, cultural, political, economic, and/or technological processes in non-western societies shape (or shaped) the human experience in those societies; and/or how globalization processes impact the United States or societies more broadly.
