COM 41000 - Gender Roles And Communication

This course is designed to investigate the relationship between gender roles and communication; i.e., how gender roles are socially constructed, maintained, and enacted. Specifically, this course examines the difference between sex and gender, the interplay of gender and culture, and theories of how we become gendered. It looks into the complex webs of social, cultural, and political institutions and practices that surround and impact not only the formation of our gender identity, but also our gendered understanding.
