BIOL 56500 - Immunobiology Laboratory

Immunology is the study of our immune system. This course covers immunological methods and techniques used in biomedical research and diagnostic laboratories. This is a hands-on class with a focus on laboratory methods that demonstrate principles of how our immune system works. The immunological techniques used in the lab include observing various immune cells by microscopy and identifying antigens by immunoblots as well as detection of cytokines by diagnostic assays.

Student Learning Outcomes
1.  Examine broad overview of basic immunology techniques, while also delving deeply into immunological and molecular details in important areas in the field.
2.  Discuss and observe various immune cells and components of innate immune and adaptive immune system learn interaction between these cell types.
3.  Describe antigen- antibody interaction and techniques using this immunological principle.
4.  Understand about cytokines and develop diagnostic assays to detect cytokines.
5.  Gain knowledge about how the immune system interfaces with the human body and will prepare students to excel in health professions and research career.
