ANTH 20001 - Bioanthropology
This course offers a broad introduction to human evolution and biological anthropology. Topics include the genetic foundations of human evolution, micro- and macroevolutionary processes, human ecology and adaptation, bioanthropological perspectives on race and modern human physical variation, primate behavior and evolution, and the human fossil record.
Cr. 3. Student Learning Outcomes 1. Demonstrate an understanding of how the four microevolutionary forces shape human biological variation and evaluate how they relate to macroevolutionary concepts.
2. Recognize examples of human biological acclimitizations and adaptations, and evaluate how they relate to existing human biological variation around the globe.
3. Recall the hominid fossil species and relate them to their chronological order, key behavioral attributes, and relatedness to subsequent species and evolutionary trends in the human lineage.
4. Relate key evolutionary trends in the human fossil record and understand how those events gave rise to current human biological variation.
