EDU 53400 - Instructional Methods For Effective P-12 Teaching This course examines the knowledge, skills and dispositions of an effective teacher concerning issues and trends in P-12 education, specifically in the areas of curriculum and instruction. Candidates will study curriculum terminology and instructional planning issues, develop an instructional plan to effectively implement and assess elementary and secondary curricula, demonstrate the capacity to provide individualized instruction, and successfully deploy culturally responsive teaching methods in the classroom.

Student Learning Outcomes
1. Demonstrate a broad and comprehensive understanding of the fundamental concepts and processes associated with Indiana academic standards across the P-12 curriculum.
2. Plan clear, coherent and evidence-based lessons that foster students’ understanding and mastery of concepts and skills related to academic content standards.
3. Describe and evaluate evidence-based teaching strategies across elementary and secondary development levels.
4. Apply principles of effective teaching to make wise professional judgments in the context of the instructional planning process.
5. Implement strategies and skills associated with the assessment of student learning and mastery of the elementary curriculum, including the ongoing use of assessment to monitor learner progress, inform instructional decisions, and apply Response to Intervention procedures.
6. Demonstrate the capacity to individualize instruction, including the integration and utilization of adaptive technologies to support the needs of individual learners.
7. Apply principles of culturally responsive teaching in the development and delivery of an equitable and inclusive curriculum.
8. Develop and teach an instructional lesson, aligned to content-specific standards, demonstrating mastery of principles associated with evidenced-based teaching and learning. |
