EDU 54000 - Autism Spectrum Disorders Assessments And Interventions


This graduate-level course provides an in-depth exploration of assessment practices for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of diagnostic criteria and the theoretical frameworks that guide the assessment process. The course covers a variety of assessment tools and techniques, including standardized tests, observational assessments, and parent interviews, emphasizing their application across diverse contexts.

Student Learning Outcomes
1. Describe relevant legislation, legal, and ethical considerations related to assessments, particularly for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

2. Analyze and demonstrate the use of major diagnostic test strategies and interpret data in relation to ASD assessments.

3. Use formal and informal assessment procedures and interpret results for individuals with ASD.

4. Demonstrate knowledge and sensitivity toward ability level, cultural, and socioeconomic factors in special needs testing.

5. Select appropriate assessment methods and instruments to meet the individual needs of students with ASD. 6. Read and interpret psychological reports used to determine eligibility for special education services under the ASD category.
