MUSC 54500 - Advanced Practice II: Integrative Medicine An applied clinical practice course focused on the development of advanced clinical skills in assessment, treatment implementation, evaluation, and termination in settings providing integrative medical treatment. Includes exploration of collaborative work with other medical professionals, practice in self-reflection and self-assessment of skill, and group supervision in seminar format.
Preparation for Course P: Permission of instructor required.

Student Learning Outcomes
1. Demonstrate knowledge and skill in applying the four methods of music therapy for the purposes of assessment, treatment, and evaluation in an integrative medicine treatment approach.
2. Develop and demonstrate skill in elaborating on music processes to meet clinical needs of patients in assessment and treatment implementation.
3. Document assessment, treatment, and evaluation information in accordance with the Standards of Clinical Practice and in the required format of the clinical placement.
4. Translate music evidence language into the language of treatment goals and objectives within documentation.
5. Translate music evidence and communicate it effectively to family members and clinical staff to support a team approach for wholistic healthcare.
6. Interpret clinical signs and symptoms of the patient to guide clinical decision-making.
7. Demonstrate an understanding of and ability to respond musically, behaviorally and verbally, in the moment in response to the patient’s physical, physiological, cognitive, psychological, social, and spiritual needs.
8. Identify and respond to the needs of the patient’s support system when present during treatment.
9. Practice in a manner that reflects an understanding of and respect for cultural differences in clientele, their families and support systems, other professionals, and other treatment and facility staff.
10. Practice according to the guidelines in the Standards of Clinical Practice and Code of Ethics.
11. Identify one’s own strengths, limitations, and learning needs, and develop a plan to address these moving forward.
12. Make full use of supervision in individual and group formats in order to advance level of effective and ethical clinical practice.
13. Develop self-care practice and utilize supervision and/or personal therapy to address personal issues and countertransference that could potentially impact provision of music therapy services. |
