MUSC 51500 - Clinical Practice In Music Therapy An applied practicum course in which students will develop and practice skill in music therapy assessment, implementation, and evaluation, under the supervision of a board-certified music therapist in a community-based medical or other healthcare setting. Includes a focus on developing reflexive practice and self-awareness in determining level of development in AMTA Professional and Advanced Clinical Competencies.
Cr. 2. Student Learning Outcomes
1. Demonstrate knowledge and skill in applying the four methods of music therapy for the purposes of assessment, treatment, and evaluation in a clinical setting.
2. Develop and demonstrate skill in elaborating on music processes to meet clinical needs of clients in assessment and treatment implementation.
3. Document assessment, treatment, and evaluation information in accordance with the Standards of Clinical Practice and in the required format of the clinical placement.
4. Translate music evidence language into the language of treatment goals and objectives within documentation.
5. Demonstrate an understanding of and ability to respond, musically, behaviorally and verbally, in the moment to important events as they occur in music therapy sessions.
6. Practice in a manner that reflects an understanding of and respect for cultural differences in clientele, their families and support systems, other professionals, and other treatment and facility staff.
7. Practice according to the guidelines in the Standards of Clinical Practice and Code of Ethics.
8. Identify one’s own strengths, limitations, and learning needs, and develop a plan to address these moving forward.
9. Make full use of supervision in individual and group formats in order to advance level of effective and ethical clinical practice.
10. Develop self-care practice and utilize supervision and/or personal therapy to address personal issues and countertransference that could potentially impact provision of music therapy services. |
