CPET 28100 - Networks Management
A study of networks and issues in network planning, design, installation, and management. Topics include network components, standards and protocols, topologies, architectures, system hardware, design and network layout, wiring and installation, network operating systems, servers, connection and services for clients, security and system administration and management. Other topics may include network applications, performance tuning, disaster recovery, hybrid systems, virtual networks, VoIP, and network monitoring and management tools. Work will include experience in Windows and Linux.
Preparation for Course P: CPET 18100 or ITC 23000.
Cr. 3. Hours Class 2, Lab 2. Notes No Lab fees. Student Learning Outcomes 1. Provide knowledge of LAN components, protocols, topologies, and network architecture.
2. Allow the installation of Network Operating System (NOS) such as Windows 2008 and Unix/Linux.
3. Introduce methodology and tools needed in LAN management.
4. Enable the learning of how to use manuals, handbooks, technical references, Web sites, and material/equipment specifications in the management of a LAN.
5. Identify network points of failure and implement disaster recovery.
6. Administer rights and privileges pertaining to a local area network.
7. Configure and maintain the different services of Window Server 2008.
8. Networking between Window and Unix/Linux.
