Developments over the past two millennia in Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, and northern Mozambique. Topics include the environment and peoples; the emergence of hierarchical societies; nineteenth-century economic and political changes; European imperialism; transformations in the colonial era; African independence.
