GER G425 - 20th Century German Literature


Survey of major developments in the literature of the German-speaking countries since 1890. Moments of historical and cultural interest will be discussed as they are reflected in the literature. Writing of Hofmannsthal, Rilke, Thomas Mann, Kafka, Hesse, Brecht, and others.

Notes
In general, grades of Incomplete are not given in 100- and 200-level language courses. Study Abroad Indiana University or Purdue University students with an appropriate command of German may apply for a year’s study, with full credit, in the IU program at the University of Freiburg; participation is not limited to German majors. The fourth or fifth semester of German may be taken during six weeks of full-time study abroad in the summer in Graz, Austria. Semester programs are available in Munich and Freiburg.
