An overview of contemporary West German civilization with attention to the other German-speaking countries. Political, economic, and social organization. Lectures in German; discussions in German or English.

Notes
In general, grades of Incomplete are not given in 100- and 200-level language courses. Study Abroad Indiana University or Purdue University students with an appropriate command of German may apply for a year’s study, with full credit, in the IU program at the University of Freiburg; participation is not limited to German majors. The fourth or fifth semester of German may be taken during six weeks of full-time study abroad in the summer in Graz, Austria. Semester programs are available in Munich and Freiburg.
